CHALLENGE

Create a motion piece that tells the process of a natural phenomenon. The universe is a vast space that remains fairly unknown. It contains a multitude of natural phenomenon and processes that have been studied for decades. Black holes are rare, natural occurring aspects of space and are mysteriously unexplored. Even with recent technological advancements, scientists still have not been able to visually capture a black hole. The only trace is the absence of space.

I visualized the unique process of a black hole formation, life, and death and told its story as if it was a living being. Using simplistic shapes, lines, patterns, and type I communicated the feeling of emptiness and lack of form, as well as energy. Color is simplified to black and white to show the contrast of this massive void within the infinite space. Sound is composed of ambient space static recorded from frequencies given off by planets, and electronic glitches and hums. I went with vector shapes instead of imagery because all visuals of black holes are artistic renditions or computer simulations, there is no way to photograph them at this point in time.
